You write: "My go-to is Old Grandad 86-proof, usually mixed with Diet 7-Up. Don’t tell Jeff."

There are too many good options out there to have a "favorite"... Each has its plusses and minuses. My current favorite is Redwood Empire Bourbon/Rye Blend. My favorite way to drink it is neat or on the rocks. As for cocktails, I'm partial to Sazerac cocktails and Manhattans.

For an introduction to the sheer volume of options out there, I recommend the Brewzle channel on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Brewzle. That guy has forgotten more about whiskey than most people have ever known.

My favorite bar in which to drink bourbon cocktails is far and away the Driftwood Room...in the lobby of the Hotel DeLuxe at the corner of SW 15th Ave & SW Yamhill St.

Video can be a valuable tool for sure. If you guys are planning to make this a series, my constructive feedback would be to have guests outside of the niche Portland independent media crowd. Maybe experts in a field relevant to Portland, like an economist, or crime analyst. Your substack is entertaining because of the op-ed writing style, but I imagine many people are like me, and more interested in the journalistic value.

Its common knowledge at this point that Portland is deranged, wastes public money, commodifies homelessness, etc. and the market is saturated with people willing to comment on it.

I would LOVE to see videos as an extention of your actual journalism though. Like talking to someone with knowledge of Albina Vision Trust, or who has worked inside one of the many nonprofits taxpayers are funding.

Too bad you're not a bourbon drinker, Theresa. You'd make a great guest. Maybe you could introduce them to Ryze Mushroom Coffee.

Don introduced me to bourbon a few years ago. It’s his favorite. Or was. With some soda added, it’s like Carmel. I like it!

I don’t drink often, but I can handle a drink. My general favorite is a nice spicy Bloody Mary but I can do bourbon too. 😝
