Kevin Dahlgren just wanted to help the drug addicted homeless. The interview I can't get out of my head was with a homeless drug-addicted man who was crying - he wanted to get off drugs and went to the government sponsored (taxpayer funded) organizations to get clean. Instead he was given paraphernalia and told to use with a friend so he doesn't die.
Well written and put together. Bottom line, Kevin Dahlgren made Portland look bad, and that includes PPB, and he has embarrassed some important power players, and now they want to get even. I'd love to find out what happened. I bet it all boils down to a food-box he took, so he wouldn't starve and they're going to paint him to be some kind of degenerate as a result. But I also wouldn't be surprised if many of the "charges" were just made up. My husband Don DuPay was framed for some suicidal Samoan shooting off his gun in 2012. PPB wasted over a month's worth of resources spying on him, in order to do their lame investigation only to have the case tossed out by Judge Litzenberger. This town is so small, like a fishbowl, it often feels so claustrophobically incestuous, it makes one want to vomit sometimes...
If you want to read about how people can be framed for a crime someone else did, here ya go.

Very interesting report. This is the first time I've seen anyone shine a light on what you term Portland's "pirate media." This also might be the most disturbing story I've read about what's going on right now in Portland.
But the big question remains unanswered: what the hell did Kevin Dahlgren steal, besides maybe a bag of groceries from a grocery store owned by Jeff Bezos?
Immediately after the story on Kevin Dahlgren broke, there were gleeful comments on social media, such as “Let’s hope PDX.Real is next.”
What will it take for Portland progressives to acknowledge their politics aren’t working? What will it take for Portland voters to realize they have been making bad choices?
This city desperately needs political — and media — diversity.
Kevin needs an attorney who will take this case to trial.
I agree. Theft can mean so many things. It can even mean some homeless person telling Kevin, "Hey, we don't need those things anymore. You're welcome to take them." I honestly don't care what Kevin did, the good he's doing shining a light on the corruption of Sin City is more important...
You make some good points here but then . . . you bring TRUMP into a discussion of Kevin Dahlgren (kind of a reach). You lost credibility with me when you described the serious charges filed against Trump (...91 counts in multiple federal and state jurisdictions) as simply making a "thin case look rock-solid". Just. Wow. I've been reading your stuff and suspected you were a Trump guy (even though you're a Vietnam vet like my Marine Corps husband who saw a lot of combat. ) The husband over here has always been confounded by veterans like yourself -- especially Vietnam era-- who support a draft dodger like Trump. A guy who couldn't be bothered to serve. DIsappointed that you had to use Trump's indictments as an example of prosecutorial overreach. Kevin Dahlgren? Yup - probably politically motivated. Trump? Not so much. We'll soon find out. Although it will just be "fake news" to the true patriots.
I like your comment because it’s well-written and offers a different perspective.
Richard isn’t a “Trump guy” or anybody else’s guy. He’s the kind of journalist former New York Times editor Howell Raines would describe as having "the writer's gift of being able to care passionately but analyze coldly.”
The American news media went off the rails in the most passionate way when Trump ran for president. They forgot to analyze coldly. Thus, he shocked them all by getting elected. They have never gotten over it. Now they have two boxes where they place subjects: left and right. If you dare challenge any liberal or progressive orthodoxy, you are shoved into the box labeled “right.”
Portland’s legacy media have refused to honestly report on the “homeless crisis.” It’s a drug crisis, aided and abetted by academicians, selected experts and elected leaders — many of them liberal Democrats.
Nobody at The O or Willamette Week or OPB have delved into the subject with the depth that Richard Cheverton did in the links below. In the legacy media’s smug world, if Cheverton once said something mildly sympathetic to Trump, they have permission to ignore him.
Thank you. .. I agree with your analysis of our local legacy media re: the “ homeless -- drug -- crisis. We moved to PDX in 2018 from Wisconsin and I figured out the Oregonian pretty quickly.
But when anyone says the charges against Trump are “thin” (in any context) I just can’t ... he and his movement have done such damage to our institutions esp our reliance on historically free & fair elections.
He fomented a coup. Stole state secrets. Comparing his 91 counts to Kevin Dahlgren? No. That’s not a fair analogy. Maybe the Manhattan charges. Maybe even the NY State charges ( but only on the basis that lots of rich folks committed similar fraud. I’m a retired CPA so trust me on that one!)
Anyway, thanks for your response. I definitely recognize your name!!
This case stinks and kudos to Portland Dissent and Richard Cheverton for helping explain why.
When tens of millions of dollars are being drained from taxpayers and forked over to racially correct “non profits,” many of who have failed to file either IRS 990 returns or even Oregon incorporation filings, one would help either the district attorney or the state attorney general might actually be looking at these. But oh, no instead, they’re going after a politically incorrect social worker who is not part of the ruling caste!
For bidding mugshots was always a stupid anti-1st amendment idea, but nothing is worse than selective enforcement of the law in order to attack people with whose politics you don’t agree.
A strong argument can be made that Dahlgren cannot get a fair trial in Multnomah county and the anti-DA who is running for reelection has shown that his allegiances have nothing to do with law-enforcement.
I guarantee he cannot get a fair trial in Multnomah County. The last jury I was on is proof of that for me. After long and explicit warnings from the judge about bias, 60% of the jury had no problem wearing their biases as medals in their judgements. It made me sick.
Now that DA Vasquez is in, Kevin's supporters should start a letter writing campaign to drop the charges.
Best guess he burned out and went a little rogue. I wish him the best and hope he gets a fair trial and can continue his reports.

It would be interesting to hear what Mingus Mapps thinks of Mike Schmidt and Jon Dilorenzo's lawsuit against the City of Portland?
Good luck with that. He's been keeping to himself a lot lately. No doubt thinking about his next move. LOL...
Bottom Line: We need to work hard to get Nathan Vazquez elected as our next DA. Donate time and money.

AMEN!! We sure do!
