Rukaiyah Adams. Without OPM (other people's money) she is nothing. I met her and her husband back in 2017 and she was a hustler even then, but hadn't quite made it to the big leagues, yet. I don't doubt she would love to run, as long as Phil Knight's guilt money paid for the campaign.
Spence initially announced a couple of years ago she was going to run for Dan Ryan’s seat. She dropped out after she was appointed to fill the remainder of state Sen. Ginny Burdick’s seat.
Spence also briefly served for one year in the state House, filling the unexpired term of former state Rep. Jennifer Williamson, who stepped down to run for Secretary of State (and ultimately abandoned that race when Willamette Week’s Nigel Jaquiss started looking into how she had spent her campaign funds when she served in the House. Shemia Fagan stepped in to be the D’s progressive candidate after Williamson dropped out.)
Another potential city council candidate could be former Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith, who lost to Jo Ann Hardesty for council and later lost in a Congressional primary. There’s also former city commissioner Steve Novick who lost to Chloe Eudaly.
As Richard Cheverton has explained, losers could have a shot at winning with the new system.
I hope we can get some REASONABLE candidates. Pamela will you run? The Portland Party (now Future Portland) is looking to support pragmatic candidates. If you know ANYONE remotely interested in running or helping on other’s campaigns send them their way.
For some reason I can’t post Candace’s list link but if you go to the Amazon gift registry page and enter Candace Avalos you can see what she “needs” for her house. She takes straight cash as well. There also is a $90 stainless steel trash can still available for purchase. What preferences and special attention does one get for a $90 trash can or a $280 Kitchen Aid mixer? Grifters gonna grift….
It’s always an education to see what somebody else likes/wants. An egg dispenser? All these years I’ve been reaching into the refrigerator and grabbing eggs out of a carton. A canister to store bacon grease I can understand. I admire Candace's frugality (it’s a sin to waste good bacon grease). But if she is truly interested in living long enough to retire (see her 4th of July tweet below), she might want to lay off the bacon. Had she not blocked me on Twitter, I could have imparted this wisdom to her directly.
Avalos loves to block on Twitter . Joanne Hardesty would even do that on her official government account as well as did her old office of civic life. No surprises there.
Richard, Have you seen Candace Avalos has bought a house in East Portland as she thinks that will be a favorable district for her Council run? She’s even getting her donors to furnish her new house via an Amazon Wish list. Will she disclose these gifts as a political donation? LOL.
Did you see what Avalos tweeted on July 4th? Maybe she’s interested in “public service” because in some cases the retirement can be generous. It seems very Portland for people in their mid-30s look forward to retirement:
“I have spent my day off today doing mostly nothing and it’s a reminder that the only thing I truly want for my future is retirement 🙃 I promise you if I didn’t have to work to feed myself & keep a roof over my head I wouldn’t😩 If I die before I retire I’m gonna be mad af😭”
I can’t get the screenshot to post here. If you go over to @PissedVotersPDX and scroll down — past the pictures of tinfoil, Mingus Mapps, the tunnel fire, the security guard shooting, and reach 4th of July photos, you will encounter Avalos’ smiling face.
Elected officials cannot block the public from their official pages on Twitter. Former Commissioner Chloe Eudaly tried to and got into trouble. State Sen. Sara Gelser Blouin (D-Albany) blocked me for a couple of days and had to lift it.
If you want to hold public office, you need to be open to reading and hearing diverse viewpoints. You can’t just listen to your friends. I've been following Avalos' career since her early days on the Citizen Review Committee. She has evolved into an arrogant public figure.
I was blocked by Hardesty’s official account (later unblocked) and also blocked by Office of Civic Life for commenting that they should not be telling Portlanders what kind of Halloween costumes to wear. Seriously.
Not sure what PhD Mingus is thinking. Maybe he feels his ability to hire/fire the city manager will give him enough power in the city? Also wondering if he also feels Portland is near a nadir and as Portland voters elect a few more Rene Gonzalez’s to Council and as Portland recovers he as figurehead mayor would get a good amount of the credit. Then after a success in returning a semblance of livability to Portland his next move will be toward Salem and moving to Mahonia Hall.
Sam Adams was a grifter of the first degree. He has been living off of Oregon taxpayers since 1986 with nothing to show for it for anyone but himself. He sexually molested a 17-year-old boy in his employ at City Hall, he bullied a woman at City Hall so badly in 2022, that Ted Wheeler forced him to resign in January 2023. He cares about no one but himself and has only been effective at lining his own pockets.
I disagree. 1) He was 18 right? 2) Yeah, Adam should have admitted it right away 3) it’s past time to move on 4) Adams was actually getting sh&@ done until softie Wheeler fired him for demanding action from easily offended city employees.
“Breedlove agrees with Adams' account that the two didn't have a sexual relationship until two weeks after he turned 18 in June 2005.” 2005 and it’s 2023. Time to move on.
Oh, Sam is just a born romantic. Getting caught fingering his mentee in the city hall toilet (men’s?). Well, try to think of him as a sort of everyman’s Holly Golightly. Likewise, when the youngster who was fellating him so hastily fled after Sam’s Passionate Foot hit the gas pedal at what we shall call peak joy in the parking lot over to Hayden Meadows.
Recall Sammi the young scamp disappearing for several days when on that Scandinavian junket? On the taxpayers nickel. I suspect his clothing needed burning rather than washing when he surfaced for the flight home. Young love can be silly, so, so silly.
I ran into him one weekend eve at the video store. In front of him he had a steaming pile of what certainly must have been wittily scripted gay May- December pron. What most tickled my heart was the very young but extraordinarily long necked and very drugged up and smiling black youth (cute butt!) he had on his arm so that he had someone with whom to share his joy in world cinema amidst fountains of the white stuff.
That night I thought to myself isn’t Portland fortunate to have escaped a mayoralty
Of some limp bourgeoise with spouse and children. Imagine Portland handcuffed to some selfish Presbyterian Cis-creature who drearily tried to stop increasing urban decay, the blossoming anti-white racism of Courageous Conversations, or who believed that basic civics should be inculcated rather than a general loathing of our nation, your community, and all things that bring forth a healthy and just republic.
Does Portland still have some jumped up fxxkwit with a sinecured little gang looking after your human rights.?
Height and weight are irrelevant. My two sons were both over 6" and 180lbs by the time they were 16.
Sam did a lot for Sam and his buddies on the City Council, but nothing for the citizens of the city. If he was so good at his job, the city would not have been in a decline for so long.
Your last paragraph makes me wonder if you might be a relative of his, it sounds like a mother defending her favorite child.
You're delusional. Relative? Nope, just someone who thinks crazy people like you should get over it. I'm not engaging with you anymore. I find your perspective ignorant and boring. Sorry. Not sorry. :)

Among other possible candidates, there’s Akasha Lawrence Spence:

Spence initially announced a couple of years ago she was going to run for Dan Ryan’s seat. She dropped out after she was appointed to fill the remainder of state Sen. Ginny Burdick’s seat.
Burdick resigned to take a spot on the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, which is the place legislators go to get a boost in their PERS retirement: https://www.oregoncapitalinsider.com/content/tncms/live/

She must have removed it, there are no July 4 posts on her Twitter.
It’s there on July 3rd. It’s just hard to find amongst all her “woe is me” and homeless enabling posts.
It’s still up on July 4 @PissedVotersPDX which is where I spotted it.
Can you post it here. Can’t find it. Thanks!

I’d love if Angela Todd of PDX Real ran for Council. That would be awesome!

Ranked-choice voting seems custom-made for Hardesty’s revenge.

No, he was 17.

Dang, and you were *thisclose* to whipping out Godwin's Law.
