This excellent article alluded to the smashing of business windows around Pioneer Square... I'd like to add the roughing-up of downtown bystanders who did not follow anarchist orders, plus the arson of 17 police cars in support of the library occupation.
Regarding WW, why did they memory hole that article? Since then, for what it's worth...
Quote from the latter which shows the student editor's difficulty harmonizing her happy talk with the facts that contradict:
Q. "There’s a tension between what you’re describing [a dancing and BBQ vibe at the occupation] and the level of property damage that was left inside the library. How do you reconcile that?"
A. "That’s a great question. I think the protesters’ largest message on that point was, “How does this pale in comparison to what’s going on in Gaza right now?” which is an intense statement. I also know from people I talked to who went inside the library that there were efforts to not ruin the books, to not ruin the school supplies.
"Now our library is closed until the fall. It’s not easy to totally condemn and not easy to totally be in favor of, especially speaking as a student who uses the library myself. Why the library? Why not another building that doesn’t directly impact students so much?"
It's patently obvious the local media won't admit the obvious, that Antifa and its anarchist ilk had a leadership role in the PSU library takeover. Antifa graffiti was everywhere (circled "A," three downward arrows, standard slogans). The ubiquitous "ACAB" (All Cops Are Bastards) from 2020 has now morphed into the antisemitic "AZAB" (All Zionists Are Bastards), plastered on buildings and posts. "Free Palestine" was recycled from 2020. The swarming mob was dressed in black, with masks they never removed. They used "black bloc" tactics, aggressively confronted pedestrians, damaged businesses, and targeted the police, their sworn enemy. By no mere coincidence, arsonists destroyed 17 police training cars on the same night. Antifa's goals, among others, are intimidation of the public (now targeting Jews in particular), creating chaos, undermining the government and law enforcement, and radicalizing students. Based on the weak response of the university, the media, and government, it appears Antifa has once again succeeded.
Great spot, Larry. The author, Heather MacDonald, dares to talk about the femiinization of both protest and politics--an issue that dare not be mentioned here in Oregon, which is ruled by a weird combination of Big Girls (check the masthead of the Oregonian for openers) and gays of both male-female persuasions.
I once asked a pal what would happen if the power structure of an entire state went through menopause at the same time...and after the laughter ended was told to NEVER EVER EVER say that in print.
As a female who posts on silly sites like NextDoor, it amazes me how many people, especially women, react on an emotionally level FIRST. Never bothering to run their ideas past that CPU called a brain. The whole blow up over Gov. Noem is another example. It sure sounds awful but the dog ended up biting her. Perhaps if she had started with the severity of the bite and worked back to how many chickens were killed along with some graphic photos that would have calmed more of the public.
That great comment by Cheverton is typical of the remarks that have gotten him in NextDoor jail and banned from WWeek comments. It’s why there is now Portland Dissent.
Whenever Cheverton uses the shocking word “feral,” he’s giving the middle finger to the nanny girls and boys at NextDoor. In their world, feral people don’t exist.
I abandoned NextDoor years ago. When I recently defended Gov. Noem on Twitter, immediately one of the old NextDoor faithful came after me. They are not content to disagree. They want to silence.
I have started examining the "review team" on NextDoor. Many of them have only lived in the state for less than a handful of years. So one, they come with a far more progressive bent than the average independent Oregonian. Two, the biggest sin, is they have no history or understanding of why you might want to look at an issue beyond their limited view.
Thirdly and this I find far more telling, most list only their first name and last initial --on ND I post my full identity. So as I watch those who are protesting with their masks covering their faces and purportedly using their first amendment rights while burning, pillaging, and threatening mortal harm; I see a bunch of fools trying to hide who they are and what they are on a seemingly benign website as well.
Supposedly ND is about fostering community yet in reality censoring all but a narrow ideology. These groups share the same MO.
Hilarious "sleuthing" by your hard pressed news desk on just what Willamette Week was so busy covering they couldn't give space to the PSU Hamas crowd!
This feels different to 2020 etc. For what it's worth, "the word" among some of students, even the left-leaning ones, is that "they shouldn't have trashed our library." (I'm getting this from a family member who's a post-grad there); dammit, the coffee shops just off campus are (I'm told) now packed like sardine cans with student exiles from the library.
Piece of SHIT University-- I apologize if you have an actual degree from the place and have created a meaningful life and career from that sheep skin. This place needs to be abandoned. Property sold off. Money returned to the appropriate coffers--any state funding should be returned in the form of a kicker back to the taxpaying saps that have been supporting PoSU. Wim Weasel most likely was the first school President to start the decline or was it Bernstine and his Urban Studies BS...what a way to end out his career.
Next they will be hiring that jackass Blumenauer to teach a class on how to ride your bike and smoke dope while creating programs to end homelessness.
Here a Portlander (Peter Boghossian) advocates for your POV while being interviewed by the daughter of a single mother who is an ardent Black feminist. The interviewer is Amala Ekpunobi. She's 23 and invariably a pleasure. She's no Coleman Hughes, but then who is?
Amala is amazing and a gem to invite people of all ilkes on, thank you for posting her links!
And to the first link, I agree with Peter: America doesn't need more philosophy, sociology, male studies (as if), womens studies etc degrees. We need Nurses, plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, carpenters etc. We need to encourage young people to pursue careers where they get paid (and big!) not these nonsense degrees with massive debt.
You clearly are more hip to the now than absent minded.
I wish the Orangeman bad people could understand this, do note that it is retroactive with an American Enhancement:

Love your writing style Mr. Cheverton! So much meat in Portland (and Oregon), too many vegetarians that hate meat.

Well it was sort of nice of Mesh to at least respond…..sounds like he’s read your posts.
And there is this:
Cudd is paid a base salary of $610,000 plus a $96,000 yearly housing allowance and $12,000 a year toward vehicle expenses.

Well, I think Sophie Peel does some consistently good reporting at WW. For a small team, the paper does a pretty good job.
Don’t forget her litany of police hate articles during the riots.

Thanks, Larry. Any time spent listening to Douglas Murray is time well-spent:
“If you aren’t supposed to be ashamed of [something] then you shouldn’t be proud of it either.”
A question our local media need to put to progressives: What about when the whole damn thing falls apart on their watch?
Larry you need to provide this elderly person a bit more in citations than a kid 23 and another who is 28.
Dinosaur media indeed
