Guess the death penalty is out of the question. Why does KARMA take so long? As the immigrant crisis grows, you can expect a substantial number of folks to become “citizens” who possess no conscience and are totally without any semblance of humanity. This will become the “enforcers for sale.” I expect this group to make the Mafia look like amateurs. All they need is incentive.

That same smugness can be seen in another freed thug named Hedquist, who shot an innocent girl in the "hed" because he feared she'd report his other crimes. He's made media rounds with a voice that sounds like a guidance counselor, not a nasty killer. He has to be phony on various levels, just like Cunio, a man of un-sterling character..

Since so many woke people hate cops and make excuses for criminals (modern society's true oppressors), one has to assume a significant percentage on the left are evil, not just naïve about reform prospects.

Consider that George Floyd, capable of home-invasions, could have easily pulled a trigger on someone we never learned about. Even so, they'd still revere him. Proof of that can be found in the case of Patrick Kimmons, who shot two black guys right in front of police before being taken out. Even after nearly killing two POC, he got months of eulogies from brain-dead leftists who yelled defiantly about him being a "victim."

" 'How often do you think about Ian and Bridget?' I asked."

" 'All the time,' he said. 'They are the largest part of me being the absolute best human being I could become. … it’s the loss of all their potential that made me change.' ”

So, it wasn't enough that Cuneo took their lives. He also fed on their souls.

Ditto Ms. Kennedy's thanks and praise. Another excellent real-life snapshot together with another compelling backstory.

I can't say for certain, but this guy Cunio smells like scam to me, like self-righteous self-promotion. He's learned the (white) rehabilitation buzzwords, but in his pat interaction with you, and much more so in the extended bio on his website, he appears to conceive of his victims as lucky characters in the epic movie of Him. If anything, they and their families were ennobled by the opportunity to be vehicles of his growth, rediscovery and ultimate celebrity. Also on his site are pics and clips of Juneteenth observances, poetry slams and other indications that in certain circles he blames American society and American history not himself for his deeds. Just some chickens coming home to roost.

Cunio is no Malcolm Braly when it comes to writing, that's for certain. "On The Yard" is one of the best (fictionalized) memoirs on my shelves. Cunio overwrites pompously (okay, it takes one to know one!) using unnecessary or semi-rare words the proper use of which he doesn't appear to really understand. "Emotionally connecting to the sufferance of those I harmed brought such grief that weeping burst forth....", for example. He means "suffering", I take it, but wants to use what he assumes is an impressive synonym instead of a near antonym. I looked up a video of a performance, charitably described as "poetry". He looks like Weird Al Yankovich with dreads.

The otherwise detailed chronology of his own Damascus road prison epiphany--his "Search For Redemption"--is undercut by what appears to be a major omission. After some years in prison for the murders of Dahl and Camber, Cunio was per public court records indicted for attempted murder and supplying contraband inside. The heartless system did him a good turn on that occasion too, permitting a deal wherein he pleaded to felony assault to run concurrent to any existing sentence under appeal, and it apparently proved no factor in his subsequent release.

If indeed he's genuine, and his professed tears for Dahl and Camber not crocodile, racial victimhood-chic calculation, belied by backroom exultation and execration, I apologize to him.

For starters, someone who ruthlessly shot a guy (not just in self-defense or a gray legal area) has no business having a fancy website in his name. Very strange.

This is so important. You are such a fantastic journalist. You always seem to know what’s going on in Portland and you put yourself in situations I’d never even know how to gain entrance to. I’d never heard of this guy until today, but the fact that he would be hailed as some kind of hero doesn’t surprise me. The Democratic Party has sunk to such depressing depths. Thanks for a great piece here.
