"Mr. Adan certainly punched the race card, which we’ll get to in a moment, and he certainly couldn’t afford the $2-thousand bail, being employed by a non-profit handing out air conditioners under one of Portland’s climate give-aways . . ."
Plus One:
"Six of his last nine arrests are domestic violence-related involving Abraham, according to court records. He had been in the relationship with her for about five years from 2017 to 2022, according to court records."
"In Abraham’s petition in May for a restraining order, she wrote that Adan punched her in the head as she slept, struck her in the eye and on May 1 'put a gun on my head and then he said he was playing.'"
" 'Before, when I told him that I was leaving him,' she wrote in the petition, 'he told me that he would kill me.' "
Equals: With a terrifying record like that, how the hell did Adan get hired by a PCEF-funded non-profit?
Does the Portland Clean Energy Fund consider it racist to require its beneficiaries to perform background checks on potential employees?
Or is any form of due diligence, be in on the Portland Clean Energy Fund, its would-be grantees or their job applicants, totally out of the question because due diligence is a toxic manifestation of whiteness? Did the Freedom Fund just show us the consequences of applying the "other ways of knowing" that BIPOC activists are so fond of promoting?
This shocking case cries out for additional and more detailed publicity, Richard, thank you very much. From what's already in the court records, in my opinion we've seen only the tip of the iceberg published so far. Not that area news media will likely dare to follow up and fully report, because it would be a political hot potato, but there appears to be substantial evidence that this was a classic honor slaying, (allegedly) committed by a Muslim native of Somalia. A feckless, leftist Multnomah County criminal justice system, including judges, failed the victim and her poor children.
First off, let's put paid to DA Mike Schmidt's laughable claim that his office "aggressively pursued a high bail" in Adan's case(s). As Mr. Marquis I'm confident will also attest, $20K is lowball bail as it is for multiple felony DV charges picked up while on release on other charges, for a felon with violent priors AND several failures to appear. But Adan's prior DV arrests were against the same victim---the late Ms. Abraham! Schmidt's office also dismissed in its entirety yet another case from this May when Adan was arrested for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Eluding in a vehicle, Hit and Run, and DUII.
Schmidt's office submitted no filings to maintain--or, more appropriate, to increase--Adan's bail after that lurid and escalating backdrop. And the judge snoozed? Adan was permitted with help from his community to post a measly $2K for release, then to return shortly thereafter, just as he'd promised he'd do, per court records, to (allegedly) torture then kill his longtime victim in her home. Compare all this with e.g., the 18 page memo filed by Schmidt & Co. to keep Patriot Prayer arrestee Alan Swinney's bail at over $500K, for purportedly causing injury to a rival activist with a paintball gun.
More details as requested or necessary, depending on what the local "news" media does now.
I had not considered the possibility of this being an honor killing. Maybe it’s time to contact state Sen. Kayse Jama and see if he wants to weigh in. Perhaps he knew the victim and her accused killer.
Here's why I think the likelihood should be investigated. All items as listed below are from either court records or mainstream news media reporting, and from second-wave feminist Phyllis Chesler's classic summary of the overlaps with AND distinctions between domestic violence and deadly honor violence. The latter, here as well as abroad, is not exclusively but primarily committed by Muslims of certain ethnicities, clans and/or national origins.
Somalia, Adan's native country, is on that dubious list. His first two names are Mohamed Osman. He speaks Somali and Arabic. His victim's maiden name was Racheal Manwarren, but the first news reporting said neighbors knew her as "Jamila", an Arabic name. Some photos show her in convention American garb; others in hijab. Her two children by Adan have Koranic names. It appears to be a sometime conversion, because of Adan.
The woman who bailed him out, already listed by Richard, appears to be a stock Antifa "abolitionist" yahoo. The much more well-heeled group, AYCO, which advocated for Adan and his "two" (Adan's) children as described, and directly for low bail with the Court, and which may have actually put up the money is, based on its website, run by and devoted to area Somalis. All women in the site photos are in hijab except for a Anglo nonprofit officer.
Per court records Adan repeatedly promised to kill Abraham, warning her against leaving him. During one attack she had to flee "without her hijab". Unlike quick stabbings or shootings in typical domestic violence killings, she was slowly strangled while being physically punished otherwise. Her face was sliced top to bottom with a knife, cutting through her lip. A 911 operator heard her protest she was not practicing "black magic".
Speaking of overlap, Senator Jama would be perfect to address these issues, concerns and priorities, having himself advocated during the Floyd riots not just to defund but to abolish Portland's police force and empty its jails, and he is a prominent Somali-American.
AYCO is deeply imbedded with the county and Metro--they just got booted out of the old TV station on Glisan St to make way for the Metro mega-public housing project (doesn't anyone do any research into what happened to the "pile up the poor" projects back east?)
AYCO head, Mr. Dar, sent my query along to their attorneys. Expect some delicately worded replies. I've updated the web version of the story...
Rachael Angel Abraham. More Old than New Testament. Scans wonderfully well too were it to be handed to the poet. Well anyway it looks like her fellow citizens saw to it that she didn't have a prayer. Bet your ass they'd have seen her right were she trans. She would now enjoy an above-the-fold secular sainthood for her martydom. Well, maybe she wouldn't enjoy it. Her fellow citizens would revel in it. She was slaughtered for the sake of one vogue or another.
The old best of white man's justice, the one that was intended to be blind, to succor women and children and the aged might have protected her. The laws were tending that way - towards real protection of women. then we lost the words: what is a woman? Anyway, it was her tormentor that got the benefit of contemporary justice. He got the help he needed to complete his task as he saw and understood his task.
Kinda scary ain't it? Justice distributed with whimsey and by fashion. But, justice administered with an old school rigor. Hers was a death our times foreordained.
I was listening to a school principal from someplace out East caught by Project Veritas. Said he didn't hire Catholics. Weren't progressive.
Watched another clip recently. Set in Texas mothers had brought their children to some sort of tranny sex joint fest. Wait, here it is from the sympathizers point of view:
Brave antifa with long guns in the streets and on the roof tops protecting the interplay between children an their ....sex positive guides. Proud Boys lurking, always lurking.
Not much surprises anymore. Evil enjoys the bright light of day and the approbation of right thinking people. Rachel didn't stand a chance. Never stood a chance.
It just occured to me that her death is part of the legacy of Trayvon, Big Mike, George, and even Soledad Sister Angela. It is their gift to us.
It's not in Portland but Milwaukie, Oregon. Not Milwaukee.
So noted. I miss my old newspaper's copy desk.
You can be excused you're not from around here.
"Not from around here." Sorry; I live in a non-fashionable part of Portland...and I've put 23 years in Oregon on the lock.

I can’t help but despise Portland more and more each week.
