"Equity" means that what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine too.

The problem with one-party polities is that they have no check on their own divisive impulses. Back when democracy worked, there were moderates in both parties who could make deals and compromise. But Gingrich pretty much changed America to all political war all the time. No longer was there any purpose in cooperating with the enemy. The centralizing drama rewarded hysteria and demonology. Republicans got there first but Democrats eventually found their own woke path to tribal purity. Obama held the fort but but by the time his second term was done, the zealots were ready for purity rituals. Bernie Sanders noticed this first and the Democrats' schism began to widen. Bernie may have been a traditional Marxist but the cultural Marxists loved him just the same. Jargon like "neoliberal corporatists" mixed with abstractions like "equity" and just like that the party waved goodbye to its white working class.

Portland's capture was inevitable given its demographic bulge of millennial hipsters. Ditto for Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland, and LA. The Left Coast was overwhelmingly liberal so there wasn't a pragmatic caucus to keep the nuttiness in check. Now it's time for regrets and voters are actually rebelling. Funny how charmless idealistic twaddle can seem when there's feces on the sidewalk and tweekers are stealing everything that isn't nailed down. The social justice warriors are cultists, however, and they won't relinquish their power even if their political fortress is under siege. Cults tend to be like that.

I don't see democracy recovering from this nightmare. The fringes have captured the center and, pace Yeats, the worst are full of passionate intensity while the best lack all conviction. I used to think a redemptive electoral blowout might set the pragmatists' ship aright but it's probably too late for even that dire hope.

Equity, as promoted, means that we will not use invidious, race-based discrimination as a TOOL to avenge similar race-based practices that hurt Blacks and other racial minorities for years. Ibram X. Kendi, the made-up name of a racist academic, plainly argues that the solution for PAST discrimination is FUTURE discrimination.
